KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has asked domestic airline companies to keep fares low as ticket prices skyrockets to RM3,600 per trip to the Borneo state.
Bung Moktar has further asked the Transport Ministry to intervene and address the issue immediately.
"The people in Sabah are complaining over the high fares, the economy ticket for a one-way trip alone has reached over RM2,800 and there are also
prices up to RM3,600 for one trip," he wrote in his Facebook page.
The Kinabatangan MP urged airline companies not to make profits as Malaysians celebrate Hari Raya in about two weeks.
"In a few weeks, Muslims will celebrate Hari Raya and those in Kuala Lumpur will return to Sabah, but many of them had to cancel their plans as the fares are exorbitant," he said.
He also urged airlines to make it easier for passengers, especially those who are not aware of the self-check-in system.
"AirAsia has also set a condition where all passengers must do self check-in to escape the additional RM100 charges for checking in at the counter.
"AirAsia must understand that in Sabah there are still many who do not have smartphones and the elderly are still clueless about the check-in system done through the machine provided.
"MAS and AirAsia should stop taking advantage of the situation," he added.
