IPOH - The Perak State Health Department (JKN) is investigating the case of the discovery of a clump of human hair in kuih tepung pelita, claimed to have been bought from a Ramadan bazaar, here, that was viraled on social media yesterday.
State Health, Science, Environment and Technology Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin said this was to prevent such a case from recurring in protecting the public’s health.
Tepung Pelita, which is steamed, pandan-flavoured rice flour dessert with a coconut milk custard top and encased in banana leaf, is especially popular during Ramadan for breaking of fast.
"Any similar case should be reported to JKN’s Food Safety Division to facilitate the gathering of information and investigation,” Mohd Akmal said.
This was in response to the viraled photo of a tepung pelita with the hair, with the caption, ‘Sehelai rambut boleh dimaafkan, tetapi ini segumpal rambut.” (A strand of hair can be forgotten, but this is a clump of hair) and advice that food traders need to ensure cleanliness.
Members of the public can channel complaints or information to 05-245 6000 and the JKN’s official Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/bkkm.jknperak.
Last Wednesday, two siblings aged nine and seven, experienced a case of diarrhoea and vomiting after consuming what was believed to be pudding bought by their mother from a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Terengganu.
The two children were then admitted to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) and reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment - BERNAMA
