JOHOR BAHRU - The Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chapter has appointed Liew Chin Tong as the new opposition leader for Johor State Assembly.
Liew is Johor DAP chief and Perling state assemblyman.
The decision was made after the Johor PH leadership council held a meeting in Muar on April 8.
The announcement was made through a joint statement by Johor PH chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Johor DAP deputy chief.
"We hope that reforms for the Johor state assembly will continue," the statement said.
"We also hope the state government recognises the opposition chief's position in the state assembly, creates more select committees and elects an opposition assemblyman as the chairman of the state-level Public Accounts Committee (PAC)," it added.
It further said the state government led by Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi for the RM200,000 annual fixed allocation for all assemblymen by the previous menteri besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad in Johor Budget last November.
