SHAH ALAM - The Covid-19 daily cases in Malaysia remains above the 20,000 mark, as the country records 21,839 new infections, yesterday.
This brings the cumulative number of infections to 4,101,081, since the outbreak first started.
Out of 21,839, 21,552 were local cases while 287 were imported cases.
At the same time, a total of 22,324 patients have recovered from the disease yesterday.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the country since the pandemic began was recorded at 34,717.
In a statement today, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 21,700 out of the 21,839 positive cases were in categories one and two while 0.64 per cent or 139 cases were in categories three, four and five.
He said the national Covid-19 infectivity rate or Rt recorded yesterday was 0.92, with Selangor recording the highest value at 1.05 and Sabah with the lowest at 0.63.
He added that the intensive care unit (ICU) bed usage in four states exceeded 50 per cent.
"Four states recorded more than 50 per cent of ICU bed usage in Putrajaya (100 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (67 per cent), Johor (55 per cent), and Selangor (51 per cent).
