KUALA LUMPUR - Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun has announced that there was an error in the counting of bloc votes for the motion tabled by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin for the amendment of Subsection 4(5) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
This, Azhar said was informed by Jempol MP Datuk Seri Salim Sharif who was in charge of the voting count, on Thursday.
"Jempol MP who was in change of the voting count for the D1 block had notified that there was an error of marking Besut MP Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh as absent in the list when he was actually present.
"I use Standing Order 100 to amend the decision for the motion by the Home Minister, from 84 who agree to 85 who agree and not present to be amended from 50 to 49, while 86 voting against the motion remain,” he said during the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Thursday.
Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai) then stood up and suggested for an improvement of the voting system in the Dewan Rakyat.
"This is the second time an error was made in Parliament.
"I think, if it is possible, Tan Sri (Azhar) should consider a reformation on how we vote.
"We heard that some MPs who were not here (in the Dewan Rakyat) had almost been marked as present, unless there was an observer. Maybe we have to come up with a solution," he said.
