SHAH ALAM - Muafakat Nasional (MN) still can be saved amid calls from Umno General Assembly members to end cooperation with the Islamist party, Pas.
Political analyst Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya said it will be a loss if MN is not defended as the cooperation is capable of uniting Malay voters.
However, he said, Pas could save MN if it ditches Bersatu for Umno.
"Pas and Umno need each other to win state elections. If Umno and Pas supporters get together, it will definitely be one of the biggest focus in GE15," he said.

Awang Azman added Pas needs to be realistic as Pakatan Harapan (PH) is expected to cooperate with other opposition parties to gain strength.
"If Pas does not take the first step now, there are possibilities it may be disappointment in GE15," he told Sinar Harian.
During the Umno gathering over the weekend, delegates had urged Umno to cut ties with Pas.
Awang Azman added that the two parties are fragile, but there is room for MN to survive if Pas and Umno can agree on their disagreement.
