SHAH ALAM- Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has called DAP "biadap" or rude for rejecting the motion to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) to grant authorities the power to detain suspects for 28 days without trial.
The motion brought by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin earlier today at the Dewan Rakyat was rejected by 86 MPs while 84 voted to renew the tenure for the provision, 50 MPs were absent.
In his Facebook post today, Fayhsal said the provision was crucial to protect the country as "enemies are often waiting to invade".
He said the rejection is against the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
"I too disagree with Sosma being imposed on politicians like Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Mathias Chang over 1MDB but it is to protect the security and sovereignty of the country. He further reminded the opposition that there was instability in the region and it was necessary to be alert.
"It is crucial for the police force to carry out their job better," he said in his post.
"We do not want to see a repeat of Tanduo, Lahad Datu," he said
Wan Fayhsal added Home Affairs minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had reassured that the nitty-gritty of the procedures could be reviewed if it was needed.
He further said it was best for PH to call off the MoU if they were to keep objecting to "ridiculous" issues.
