SHAH ALAM - DAP outgoing secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has slammed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Umno for being confused on the purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for political cooperation.
Lim also chided the government and Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for not understanding the actual purpose of the MoU instead of misusing it to justify calling for an early general election.
"I think he (Ismail Sabri) is very confused, he said 'any second now I can for a dissolution of parliament'. He is confused.
"That is why Zahid is confused, Ismail Sabri is confused, Umno is confused, the whole government is confused,'' he said.
Lim said that PH is stuck in the middle as their political enemies and critics alike said the MoU is detrimental to both sides without actually understanding the purpose of the MoU was to stabilise the country while it grapples with the pandemic.
"On one hand, Umno said this is a threat to their party and opposition parties also said that the MoU is a threat to them. So which is which?
"This is why our leadership (PH), our main objectives is to save lives and livelihood, fight Covid-19 and save the economy as well push for the anti-hopping law.
Lim stressed the MoU was not tacit support for Ismail Sabri and the exact purpose of the MoU is listed clearly in the public domain.
Lim's comments came after Zahid had made claims that the MoU is used by Umno's enemies to kill the party during Umno's annual general assembly yesterday.
Ismail Sabri also stated that he would not wait for a second longer to call for a general election provided BN was confident to win.
