SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has amped up the pressure on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to dissolve the Parliament following the BN's landslide win in the Johor and Melaka state elections.
During his opening address at the party's annual general assembly today, Zahid said while the party is pushing for a general election, ultimately the matter would need to be made by the Cabinet.
"What are we waiting for? Just dissolve the parliament,'' he said.
Zahid had even chided non-Umno Cabinet ministers as "trash" and "loose screws" and advised Ismail to remove these unwanted elements to ensure his administration will continue to be accepted by the people.
"The Prime Minister needs to tighten the loose screws as well as take out the trash that's clogging the drains,” he said.
"We (Umno) have our own principles, dignity, and strength, so do not associate us with them,” he added.
Zahid also portrayed a narrative that parties that have agreed to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for political cooperation actually have a hidden agenda to "kill" Umno.
"I believed that the reason why they chose us is that they wanted to ‘kill’ us. They never liked us. Are we still going to renew the MoU?” he said.
