IPOH - Police are seeking a woman (suspect) known as Liyana Razali for failing to appear in court to face charges after issuing a false statement regarding the Covid-19 vaccine last September.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the woman, whose last address was in Taman Sri Andalas, Klang, Selangor, failed to appear in court on Jan 21 and a new date was set on Feb 10 for her to be charged under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for causing public fear or alarm.
"Police investigated the statement she issued alleging that two students had died as a result of the Covid-19 vaccine jab on Sept 28 last year and found it to be false.
"The investigation paper had been referred to the Putrajaya Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office and instructions were issued for the accused to be charged but she still failed to appear in court on both dates.
"An arrest warrant for the suspect has been issued by the court. Police have made various efforts to trace her but to no avail," he said in a statement tonight.
Therefore, he said those with information on the woman could contact head of the Ipoh District Criminal Investigation Division, DSP Mohd Zulkefly Mohd Mukhtar at 0124336999.
On Sept 29, last year, Perak police received two police reports in connection with allegations that the death of two students from SMK Tasek Damai here was due to Covid-19 vaccine jab.
Video footage of a woman claiming that four students, including two students from SMK Tasek Damai, died after being vaccinated, had gone viral on social media since Sept 28, the same year.
Preliminary police investigation found that the female fifth former of the school died on Aug 18, last year, at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here due to health problems, namely diabetes and positive for Covid-19.
Another male fifth former from the school died on Sept 17, the same year, at the same hospital due health problems related to a hole in the heart.
Both of them had not received the Covid-19 vaccine jab and their deaths were confirmed before the implementation of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Adolescents in Perak, which only started on Sept 20, last year. - BERNAMA
