KUALA LUMPUR - In conjunction with the coming month of Ramadan, Islamic Relief Malaysia aims to raise funds of RM2.32 million through its Rezeki Ramadan campaign to help the needy in 32 countries including Malaysia.
Through the programme, the public can choose from several donation packages in the form of food items worth RM200, RM250 and RM350 which will be handed over by the Islamic Relief Malaysia to the recipients.
Islamic Relief Malaysia chief executive officer Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin said the contribution from the programme would benefit 44,450 beneficiaries through the distribution of 8,890 food packages.
"We are estimating a family of five (will receive) one pack of food items. We will provide several food donation packages, including food items worth RM200 for Malaysia, Bangladesh, including refugees from Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"Food packs valued at RM250 are for Afghanistan, South Africa, Albania and some countries where Islamic Relief operates. Apart from that, there are also food packs worth RM350 which will be channelled to countries such as Iraq, Jordan, Palestine and Syria," he told Bernama when met at the mySinggah Ramadan programme at Wisma Bernama here today.
Zairulshahfuddin said the donations would be distributed throughout the month of Ramadan and in Malaysia, they were targeting about 6,000 families.
"Each Rezeki Ramadan food pack contains basic food or staple food of the beneficiaries according to their respective countries such as rice, flour, corn, pasta, cereals, beans, canned meat, cooking oil, sugar, tea bags, dates and others.
"Some corporate parties have given their commitment, for example, some local banks have sponsored this programme since it was launched on Jan 31 and will end on May 2," he said.
