SHAH ALAM - In a surprise turn of events, the Johor Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad has requested that the party's leadership choose a younger candidate to be appointed Menteri Besar.
The Benut assemblyman said the state government had done their best to ensure Johor remain resilient despite challenges amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
"Seeing the support and position of youths in the development of Johor, and for the long term stability, I propose that the leadership choose a young face to lead Johor," he said in a statement today.
It has been said that three names, including Hasni's, have been submitted to the palace for the Menteri Besar position. The other two are Machap assemblyman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi, the Rengit state seat winner.
Sources have stated that Onn Hafiz was the definite choice.
"With God's will, I hope under the new leadership, the state of Johor will be more prosperous.
"As I said on the eve of BN's victory in Johor, there are no political ideology and political parties are more prominent than Johor," "Now it's time for us to build a more prosperous Johor together," he added.
Hasni has also congratulated all the candidates who won the seats from all sides of the divide.
He added that BN's victorious 40-seat win came from the cooperation and hard of all members and supporters.
"I truly appreciate the concern and trust of the party throughout the success of Johor state's 15th election, which led to a great victory for Barisan Nasional in Johor," he added.
The state polls, held on March 12, saw BN winning 40 seats out of the 56 contested with Umno obtaining 33 seats followed by MCA (4) and MIC (3).
