"By combining both the MyLotus’s loyalty programme and the Lotus’s online platform, the new Lotus’s application will allow customers to shop with us online and instantaneously collect points and redeem their rewards,” said Lotus’s Malaysia President Kenneth Chuah.

The MyLotus’s loyalty programme can also be enjoyed by customers who shop at their physical stores.

Other efforts by Lotus's to incorporate technology platforms include the Scan & Shop app which enables customers to scan their items themselves in stores, manage their spending and shorten queue times through dedicated lanes.

Lotus’s has 64 operating stores throughout Peninsular Malaysia.

Customers can now enjoy a fully cashless Self-Service Checkout Counters experience at 28 Lotus’s outlets nationwide.

Kenneth said all counters accept both credit and debit card payments, as well as e-wallets such as Boost, kiplePay, GrabPay, Alipay, MCash, MAE, SHopeePay, Touch ‘n Go and UnionPay.

He added, Lotus’s Malaysia aspires to be a sustainable retailer, by incorporating sustainable practices through its #KitakanJiran initiative and environmental efforts.

"Lotus's is always ready to help underprivileged communities with the supply of food and other necessities to B40 families and individuals nationwide including those affected by the floods recently,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nanta said based on Malaysia Statistics Department, the trade and distribution industry recorded annual sales of RM1.3 trillion, a growth of four per cent in 2021 compared to the previous year.

From that total, the retail sub-sector had recorded a sales growth of 3.5 per cent to RM48.5 billion, added Nanta.

"To further boost the growth of this sector, the government has outlined policies to encourage value-added and highly skilled economic activities, which are driven by advanced technology through the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Nanta also explained that the government is planning to implement a programme to encourage the large-scale retail sector to invest in digitalisation, aimed to increase the added value and efficiency.

Not only that, Lotus’s also signed its second Power Purchase Agreement with NEFIN Group to install solar "photovoltaics” panel (PV) on 12 more of its stores as well as one of its distribution centres in Simpang Pulai, Perak, to enable its facilities to run on clean energy.

The installation, which is expected to be completed in August 2022, is estimated to reduce Lotus’s carbon emissions by about 14,461 tons annually.

Lotus’s made its debut in Malaysia in Feb 2021 with the rebranding of three former Tesco stores.

Earlier this year, the company had introduced two additional new stores in Lotus’s Pulai Hartamas in Ipoh, Perak and Lotus’s Bandar Puteri Jaya in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

In total, Lotus’s has 64 operating stores throughout Peninsular Malaysia.
