22 out of 44 deaths had no links to booster shots, says regulator

PUTRAJAYA: National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA) says 22 out of 42 death reports associated with adverse effects of immunisation follow-up (AEFI) among booster dose recipients were not linked to the vaccination.

Its Director Dr Roshayati Mohamad Sani said the remaining 20 reports are still under investigation.

"The latest of the 42 reports, a total of 22 cases have been assessed while the remaining 20 are awaiting investigations.

"Of the 22 deaths, the results of the Pharmacovigilance Committee's assessment were not related to the vaccine," she told during a press conference here, on Thursday.

She said the case report would only be disclosed after a complete investigation.

The booster shots were started on Oct 13 after concerns over after Omicron variant was said to be highly contagious.
