More Malaysian women in pilot’s seat

SHAH ALAM- Malaysia women have broken the stereotypes in the male-dominated aviation industry. with only four women in Malaysia Airlines in 2018 to 40 female pilots today.

AirAsia has more than 200 female pilots all over their company.

"There has an increase of female pilot in Malaysia Airlines while Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has 37 percent of women in board management," said Boo Hui Yee, the chief financial officer of Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB).

Boo added that MAG is looking forward to achieving 25 percent of women's representation in top management under '25by2025' initiative brought by the International Air Transport Association(IATA).

Malaysia Airlines is known for encouraging and welcoming more women and that's how Noorfariza Zulkifli, Aircraft Manager pursued her dreams.

"It was hard in the beginning to work together with experienced people yet being the only woman, I was thrilled to join the MAB engineering team", said Noorfariza.

Not forgetting, AirAsia also plays the main role by giving platforms for women to break the stereotypes, she said.

Senior Pilot of AirAsia, Safia Amira and her sister Safia Anisa both were inspired by their father Captain Abu Bakar to become a pilot.

"Its been six years into this field and I still feel excited every time I fly a plane. The work is challenging but women can do it", said Safia Amira.
