KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still investigating top graft buster Tan Sri Azam Baki over his share ownership claims which sparked controversy recently, said Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin today.

He said investigations are ongoing despite the Securities Commission's (SC) decision to conclude the case.

"As for now the probe continues and the ministry will not be commenting over the ongoing investigations," he said in a Parliamentary written answer.

Hamzah said this to a question from Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor) who asked on the updates over Azam on the share ownership linked to Azam.

On Jan 18, the SC said based on their investigations, it could not prove there was a breach under Section 25 (4) of the Securities Industry (Central Depositories) Act 1991 (SICDA) in relation to the ownership of shares through Azam's trading accounts.

The local capital market regulator in one said the SC drew conclusions in its investigation based on the evidence gathered.

The issue of Azam's shared was brought to light after MACC Consultative and Anti-Corruption Panel member, Professor Edmund Terence Gomez, resigned following the panel's alleged failure to discuss critical reports involving senior MACC officials.

Gomez in his resignation letter to the Chairman of the MACC Consultative and Anti-Corruption Panel, Tan Sri Borhan Dolah said the decision was made after questions over the 'relationship between business and authorities' and conflict of interest situations involving senior MACC officials.

However, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (LPPR), Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang in a special press conference said he was satisfied with Azam's explanation surrounding the allegation.

Abu Zahar further said base on the Azam's explanation, the ownership of shares in dispute belonged to Azam's younger brother, Nasir Baki.
