SHAH ALAM - A prime minister should not be complacent or compromised to protect his political interest as the top position symbolises integrity with responsibility to fulfil the needs of the people, says an expert.
Tan Sri Mohd Kamal Hassan of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) said the top role commands the trust of the rakyat.
"The position of the prime minister is important and symbolises integrity. He cannot be complacent, laid-back or be compromised to protect the interest of his political party.
"He is already at the top, he should do more rather than feeling that he is forced to protect his political party," said Kamal Hassan during a live programme Bersama Johan Jaafar held at the Karangkraf Group Complex on Wednesday.
He added the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) produce leaders and administrators, but not political leaders.
"Even the political parties in the country do not have a system for producing future leaders," he said, adding that this should be done through a university or an NGO.
He further said the western administration system that is rooted in Malaysia’s administration needs to be reviewed to instill spiritual values in individuals.
