SHAH ALAM - It was a harrowing ordeal for Karangkraf media group chairman Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub when he was hospitalised and treated in the intensive care unit while battling Covid-19.

Yet the near-death experience has instilled a great sense of respect and appreciation of his life and his purpose as a Muslim.

Recollecting an incident where a non-Muslim nurse expressed her joy that his health had improved slowly during hospitalisation, Husammudin said he took her enthusiastic support as a sign that he was given a second chance to live.

"I remembered when a Chinese nurse said 'Yay! Datuk is getting better' and then I began to open my eyes. Even this non-muslim person who has no relation to me is happy that Allah SWT has given me a second chance.

"I then actually began to evaluate and understand the value of being grateful and doing our best when given a second chance,'' he said.

Husammudin even explained that at the time, he had already accepted his fate.

"At that time, there was no arrogance but I solely devoted my life to Allah and I constantly asked for forgiveness from Him,” he said.

Husammudin was speaking at the Program Jom Mengaji Sebelum Tidur (JMST), hosted by Tick Talk TV last night. The programme discusses lessons thought by the Al-Quran, with last night session focusing on the values of being grateful.

Speaking as one of the invited speakers, Husammudin explained that he had spent 16 days in the hospital, with five of them in intensive care units as he was being treated as a Category 5 Covid-19 patient.
