SHAH ALAM - For Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, being made fun of for her name in the Dewan Rakyat was among the most shocking moments in her political career.
Worst of all, Kok did nothing at the time to draw a rude remark by Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman who had made fun of her name during a parliament sitting back in November 2016.
Tajuddin who was the then Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, had addressed Kok, as "the only woman with Kok, is in Seputeh”, which led the Dewan Rakyat in an uproar.
"Wow...that really made me jump. I immediately stood up and say that you are an uncivilised person,’’ Kok said, referring to her rebuttal to Tajuddin at the time.
"That really created a clash of words between me and my colleagues and even Amanah MP Khalid Samad and others also stood up and defended me and ask him to retract back his words,’’ she said to Sinar Daily in an interview recently.
Kok was also referring to her peer in Amanah, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad who had stood up and called Tajuddin "sial” repeatedly in parliament for his rude remark.
This incident had even led to an infamous brawl supposedly between Tajuddin’s supporters and Khalid on the Parliament compound.
Tajuddin had even sued Khalid for defamation following the incident.
