SHAH ALAM - The Health Ministry (MOH) today has issued compounds to senior Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders over a breach of Covid-19's standard operating procedures (SOP) during the launch of the MIC brigade for the upcoming Johor state election in Kota Iskandar, earlier today.

In a brief tweet, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin stated he had ordered ministry officials to issue a compound to Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Johor BN state chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad and MIC President Tan Sri S A Vigneswaran who had breached laws under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342).

"MOH will continue to monitor SOP for the coming Johor state election,'' said Khairy in the tweet.

In a brief response on Twitter, Hishammuddin admitted there were mistakes done by everyone involved and stressed that no one is above the law, including himself.

"I attended as a guest and there were weaknesses on the part of the organisers to control the crowd. But as I said - wrong is wrong. No one is above the law including me and this should serve as a lesson for us all,'' he said.

This is not the first time that BN leaders were reprimanded or were issued a compound due to an SOP violation.

Last year, an Umno organiser was compounded under Act 342 during the Melaka state election.

The event held at the time was even attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and other local BN leaders.

While the SOP for the election for the Johor state election has yet to be announced, Khairy had previously stated that it would be less restrictive compared to Sarawak or Melaka.
