Actor-director-writer Jit Murad dies

Jit Murad was 62.

SHAH ALAM: Celebrated Malaysian theatre actor-director-writer Jit Murad died earlier today.

According to a report by The Star, his death was confirmed by fellow veteran playwright Jo Kukathas.

He was quoted saying that Jit, who was 62, passed away at his home in Kuala Lumpur.

Jit Murad, whose real name is Aziz Mirzan Murad, is the son of former education director-general Tan Sri Murad Mohamed Noor and the older brother of film director Na’a Murad.

He began his career in the Malaysian performing scene in the late 1980s.

Among his most well-known works were "Spilt Gravy on Rice” (1995), "The Storyteller” (1996) and "Gold Rain and Hailstones” (2002).

Tributes started pouring in on social media as soon as the news of his death broke.

On Twitter, music composer Aubrey Suwito said "Al-Fatihah Jit Murad. Yours is truly a create soul”.

Twitter user named Syaza (@penasuria) said Jit’s wit, intelligence and writings shaped the local theatre scene.

"The characters in his plays changed my life and I always come back to read his plays for comfort, laughs and inspiration,” she said in her post, adding that he will be missed.

Another user Yin F Lim said the universe feels just that bit dimmer without the brilliant luminance that was Jit Murad.

She added that she was sad to hear the news and may he rest in peace.

Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil tweeted about his experience working with Jit.

"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’ un. So very sad to hear of Jit Murad’s passing.

"We worked together in A Man For All Seasons (Actor’s Studio, dir Joe Hisham) in 2004.

"His acerbic wit, incisive commentaries on social life, and bonhomie will forever be missed,” he said.
