KUANTAN: The pickup truck driver who rammed into a multipurpose vehicle (MPV), killing four people in a family in Bentong to be charged with murder.

Bentong district police chief Supt Zaihan Mohd Kaha said the man, who was under the influence of drugs at the time, will be charged today (Feb 4) at the Bentong Magistrate Court at 9am.

He said the deputy public prosecutor has instructed for the suspect to be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the murder of a mother and her three children.

Her husband

The investigation papers, he said, will be taken over by Bentong District Criminal Investigation Unit.

Last Friday (Jan 28), the Nissan Navara rammed his pickup truck into a Toyota Vellfire at Km2 Jalan Lebu-Mempaga killing passenger Raihan Mohamad, 43, and her three children Ahda Dalili Mohd Nazri, 14, Ahmad Muaz, 7, and 4-year-old Ahda Imtinan.

Raihan's husband Mohd Nazri Hamid, 44, suffered injuries and the 44-year-old truck driver, who was traveling alone, was also injured.

Zaiham had said investigations revealed Nazri, a teacher, and his family was traveling from Gua Musang to Kuala Lumpur to attend a wedding.

He was quoted saying that Nazri reached the traffic light junction when the lights turned green and he turned to the right.

"However, the Navara from the opposite direction did not stop (at the red light) and crashed into the Vellfire, causing it to spin before crashing into the metal divider,” he said, adding that the victims died on the scene and was sent to Raub Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The suspect, he said, also has three outstanding traffic summonses.
