KUANTAN - Nine vehicles were involved in an accident today at 9.30am this morning along km40 on KL-Karak Highway.
The accident involved two multi-purpose vehicles, five cars, a pick-up truck and a container lorry.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said investigations found that the accident was caused by a container trailer driven by a 42-year-old Malaysian man who lost control of the wheel.
He said the truck was headed to Kuantan from Kuala Lumpur.
"The driver sustained minor injuries on his right arm and forehead as a result, whereas other drivers involved in the accident were left unscathed," he said in a statement.
Zaiham said the accident took about three hours to clear and get the road moving back to normal.
He asked witnesses to step forward and assist with investigations and advised the public to be more careful when driving.
Drivers are also reminded to ensure their vehicles are in a good and well-maintained condition.
The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
If convicted of the offence, a fine of not more than RM4,000 and not less than RM10,000 will be imposed. The driver may also be jailed for not more than 12 months.
Meanwhile, according to the Malaysian Highway Authority, the pile up had caused more than a two-hour congestion from Gombak on the eastbound lane at the Genting Sempah-Bukit Tinggi route.
The accident resulted to the right and middle lanes being blocked.
