KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is currently being treated at the National Heart Institute (IJN)'s Cardiac Care Unit (CCU).
This was confirmed by a spokesperson from the office of the former prime minister.
"Yes, he is currently in the CCU,” said the spokesperson responding to the concerns raised about the Langkawi MP’s health.
Meanwhile, members of the media who had gathered at IJN since 1pm, are still waiting for the latest update on Tun Mahathir’s condition.
Previously, IJN had issued a statement on the condition of the Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang) chairman.
On Jan 13, the 96-year old was discharged after a successful elective medical procedure, after he was admitted on Jan 7.
There were no details of his elective procedure but Dr Mahathir had spent a week at IJN in December, last year, to undergo check-up and a series of unspecified medical investigations.
He has a history of heart ailments and has had three heart attacks - one in 1989 and another two in 2006 and had underwent a quadruple bypass.
