SHAH ALAM - Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has denied allegations that there are two camps or groups in the party’s top leadership.
He said they were doing well despite the country's prime ministerial position is not helmed by an Umno president, as in previous years.
"Do not create views as if there are two camps in Umno because it does not exist.
"As vice-president, I can confirm that everything is fine at the central level,” he said during a press conference at Padang Terap school voucher presentation ceremony for this year at the Umno building yesterday (Jan 15).
Traditionally, the prime ministerial position is automatically held by the party’s president.
This was the first time a vice-president was appointed prime minister.
On Aug 20 last year, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, one of Umno’s three veep, was named the new prime minister replacing high-criticised Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Rural Development Minister expressed hope that nobody questions Umno’s top leadership until possibly causing unrest in the party.
"We are in working towards 15th General Election and the president is committed to managing the party while the vice-president is the prime minister.
"I don’t see any problems about it,” he, who is Padang Terap MP, said.
