PUTRAJAYA- The Rohingya refugee issue is not the sole responsibility of a ministry or agency but rather a collective responsibility including other non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said a series of discussions had been held between the relevant parties.
"The only thing we are mobilizing at Wisma Putra, one of them is to strengthen their education," he said.
Saifuddin explained further for that purpose, the ministry is looking to raise funds for education.
"Funds here are not from the people but from external sources, for example now, the biggest donor is the Qatar Foundation," he said.
He said, if education is not given attention, various other problems will arise in the future.
"They don’t actually intend to stay in our country but as a stopover
"If we do not facilitate them, then they will probably find it difficult to go to a third country, "he said.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat session scheduled for January 18 and 19 in Cambodia has been postponed to a later date.
"Today we were informed it was postponed because some ASEAN foreign ministers were unable to attend for certain reasons.
"I myself could not attend because of the special session of the Dewan Rakyat on 20 January. Ministers are also quarantined like everyone else,'' he said.
