PUTRAJAYA - It is unnecessary to form a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the purchase of shares linked to the Malaysian-Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The Anti-Corruption Advisory Board chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang said that the matter can be settled without having to form a RCI.
He said the board were satisfied with the explanation by Azam in regards to the huge amount of shares under his name.
However, he said it was up to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to move forward with an RCI if need be.
"I don't think there is a need to establish a RCI. There are a lot of things RCI needs to take action on but this issue is better settled without it.
"But if it is not resolved, then it is up to the government.
"Like I said, I will convey this to the Prime Minister and it will be up to his discretion on what he wants to do next," he told a press conference at the MACC headquarters on Wednesday (Jan 5).
The special press conference was held to answer claims of power abuse involving MACC officers.
Earlier during the press conference, Azam explained that the shares in his name was used by his younger brother Nasir Baki in 2015.
However, he said he did not benefit from it in anyway.
Purchases of the shares were done in the open market and had no breach of personal conflicts.
However, all the shares have been transferred to Nasir once more.
